A sound gate on your Mac only streams audio when someone is actually speaking. That speech is transcribed to hear her name and your request — Iris doesn’t save recordings.
Day to day she only knows which app is in front and your tab’s title — no pixels, and never the URLs. She takes a screenshot only when you ask her to look at something.
The app holds nothing but your own sign-in. Every AI request goes through the Iris service, tied to your account and capped per day, so nobody can run up usage in your name.
Every account is walled off from every other. Your usage, your logs and your history can’t be read by another user.

Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If it lists an Apple M-series chip, take Apple Silicon. If it says Intel, take the Intel build. Download links are personal and expire after a few minutes — if one stops working, just click again.

Iris is a voice assistant for your Mac with a body and a personality. She lives on your screen as a small animated character, listens for her name, and does things for you — opening apps, managing tabs, setting reminders and timers, drafting messages, reading what’s on your screen — while reacting and chatting like a companion rather than a tool.
Yes. During early access every account is free, with a daily usage allowance that resets each day. Once you sign in on this page you can see exactly how much of today’s allowance you’ve used.
Early access is invite-only so we can keep Iris fast and reliable as more people join. If someone shared Iris with you, they can give you a code.
Any Mac on macOS 13 Ventura or later, with either Apple Silicon or an Intel processor. There’s a separate download for each. To check yours, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
Microphone lets her hear you. Screen Recording lets her look at your screen when you ask her to. Accessibility lets her operate apps on your behalf. macOS makes you switch the last two on in System Settings yourself, and Iris needs a relaunch before it can use them.
When you speak, that speech is transcribed by the Iris service. Silence isn’t sent. Your request and the context she needs to answer go to the AI that writes her reply, and her reply is turned into speech. Recordings aren’t saved.

Not yet — Iris is Mac-only for now. Reminders she creates do sync to your iPhone through Apple’s Reminders app, though.
Iris checks for new versions on her own and installs them for you. There’s nothing to re-download.
Quit Iris from the menu bar and drag it from Applications to the Trash. That’s all.
